Asuka is just about the prettiest, most coveted girl in the school: even Manjoume can't resist her charms and eventually ends up falling for her. She's considered the Queen of the Obelisk Blue dorms, and is looked up to by many of the girls in the school, including her roommates, Momoe and Junko.
 Strong, pretty, slender, big-breasted, smart. What more could you want in a girl? As mentioned before, she's sought after by many of the males in the school, but generally ends up turning them all down: she doesn't want to be seen as just another pretty face, or as an object to be won by men. She treasures her individuality and will give no respect to those who see her as "just another girl". All her friends, however, respect her for who she is, and so she cherishes her friends deeply as well.
 Her dreams and aspirations are unclear, and she generally keeps them to herself; either that or she's undecided as of yet. But Fubuki, being Fubuki, pushed her to become an idol with him at one point. They dueled over it, and Asuka won when Fubuki's monster, beefed up to the maximum, couldn't move. Her "niisan" is often seen teasing her and antagonizing her, sometimes unwittingly, and yet she seems fond of him in an exasperated, "stop being so stupid and shape up already" sort of way anyway.
 She's been the victim of a few different dark schemes and has wound up becoming the "damsel in distress" against her will (most of these involving coffins for some reason...) and has been rescued by Juudai at least twice. However, she doesn't seem to mind being rescued by Juudai for whatever reason, and has a great respect for him, even though he's an Osiris Red. She's stated she finds him "interesting" on multiple occasions, such as after their first duel in episode 3. It seems to suggest something, especially when Junko thinks "Why was Asuka-san acting different today? ...Impossible..." after said duel. Whether it's love or not is still debated, but the show seems to like to drop very, very subtle hints that support the pairing every now and then (especially in episode 15 *coughchokehack*).
 It is assumed she had a happy childhood with her brother, and we've seen a few moments from her past. One of these moments happened with a boy named Mitsuo, who loved to duel the other kids and put their possessions on the line. And he usually ended up winning, too. He apparently had a crush on Asuka back then. One day, Asuka challenged him to a duel to give back all the toys and things he took from the other students. Asuka ended up winning, but Mitsuo decided to steal an item of hers: a red scarf that her mother gave her for her birthday. They met again years later, when Asuka was in her first year at Duel Academy and Mitsuo had become "The Boy", a world-class champion gambler. They dueled, and Asuka defeated him yet again. He returns the red scarf of "the one he loved" and departs bitterly.
 She later falls victim to the perils of the Hikari no Kessha, the "Association of Light" -- brainwashed by Manjoume when she attempts to duel him to retrieve him from the Kessha. She loses and is brainwashed into the Kessha by him. When the Saiou's good half gives Juudai and Edo Phoenix the keys to the satellite, Saiou sends Asuka to retrieve them -- but not without brainwashing her further, completely erasing her memories of Fubuki and Manjoume, as well as everyone else around her. Juudai and Asuka duel, and during the duel, the spell on her begins to loosen until it is gone completely once she is defeated. She returns to normal and rejoins the group.
